Programme Overview

The programme offers a broad interdisciplinary degree devoted to Classical Greek culture, archaeology, history, literature, and philosophy. Students study the archaeological monuments and historical development of ancient Greece while gaining familiarity with Ancient Greek and Latin through the examination of important classical texts. The curriculum also includes Modern Greek language classes during the first year of study. The programme combines critical thinking, historical analysis, archaeological interpretation, and academic writing skills through both classroom teaching and extensive field-based learning.

On-Site Instruction & Field Experience

• Archaeology classes include field trips to archaeological sites and museums in Athens and across Greece.
• Students participate in extended educational visits to regions such as the Peloponnese, Central Greece, Crete, Santorini, and Macedonia.
• Hands-on instruction takes place at the University Museum of Archaeology and History of Art.
• Students may also participate in the Departmental Archaeological Excavation at Marathon.

Who May Apply

The programme is open to international students and is ideal for high school graduates with an interest in the ancient world, classical civilizations, archaeology, history, philosophy, and liberal arts education.
The four-year degree is divided into eight semesters, progressing from introductory foundation courses to advanced seminars and specialized studies.

Excavation Work & Practical Training

Students are introduced to archaeological excavation theory and field practice through participation in the University Excavation at Marathon.
Practical archaeological experience forms an integral part of the programme’s experiential learning approach.

Admissions Requirements

• International Baccalaureate or Senior High School Graduation Certificate
• Indicative minimum average grade: 70% or equivalent
• Proof of English language proficiency
